The Barbara Howard Learn-to-Row Scholarship
Cape and Islands Rowing Association, Inc. (CIRA) offers two (2) annual scholarships for Learn-to-Row programs in honor of one of our Masters founders, Barbara Howard. This scholarship is awarded to Masters (adult) rowers who demonstrates a desire to learn and a financial need.
CIRA offers learn-to-row programs each Spring and Summer for people of all ages at Long Pond in Harwich, MA. Typically, the program includes a series of lessons with a coach, introducing new rowers to the sport's fundamentals that get them actively engaged and on the water.
These scholarships honor CIRA co-founder Barbara Howard, who championed Learn-to-Row in our organization's earliest days as a priority for growing the club and community. In its inception, Barb served as administrator, marketer, and coach – introducing dozens of residents and current members to the sport she has come to love. She continues to provide advice and oversight to CIRA as a board director and lends her expertise to several community-building initiatives, including Learn-to-Row.
